![]() We wrote this blog for Pink Book SA Southern Sound won their bronze award in 2019 for Best Wedding Music and super proud of this achievement. Read it here or click on over to read it on our site. Top Wedding Songs We are sure that you’ve daydreamed about that perfect song to accompany every part of your wedding day. Here is a brilliant blog of the Top Wedding Songs! Like Shakespeare said, “If music be the food of love, play on.” Your main song selection plays a crucial part in your wedding and Southern Sound has been so kind as to write this blog to identify The Best Weddings Songs of All Time but also some that need to be put in the archives. From deciding if you and your bride-tribe will walk down the aisle on the same song to throwing your bouquet on any song, except single ladies. Every moment needs a song, so let’s throw some confetti in the air and celebrate! Our biggest advice is to, “…stay true to your style and your favourite songs!” Make sure you include songs that mean something to you and your partner; be it a fond memory of your first date, the song you danced to in your first home together or just that one jam from the 90s that you can’t get enough of! Southern Sound states that your day consists of approximately 9 main songs, from walking down the aisle to throwing your garter. Remember, have some fun while choosing your tunes. Here are some of the TOP wedding songs and ideas for your big moments. 1. Ceremony For the ceremony the Piano Guys are always a classic option to choose while your guests arrive and your husband-to-to with his groomsmen walk to the front of the alter, zooming with excitement to see you! A top choice for the pre-ceremony is any instrumental version of classic romantic songs. This sets the tone perfectly and still allows for guests to say hello and share in the excitement of your arrival. If you’ve been at a wedding in the last 2 years you are sure to have heard an Ed Sheeran or Christina Perri songs while the bride tribe walk down the aisle. Let’s put that in the archives and select a song with true meaning to your relationship and celebrates the union of two lives. Some great suggestions would be: 1) “At Last,” by Etta James Lyrics you’d love: “You smiled, you smiled oh and then the spell was cast/And here we are in Heaven/For you are mine at last” 2) “Your Song,” by Ellie Goulding Lyrics you’d love: “I hope you don’t mind/That I put down in words/How wonderful life is while you’re in the world” 3) “What A Wonderful World,” by Louis Armstrong Lyrics you’d love: “The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky/Also on the faces of people going by/I see friends shaking hands, saying how do you do/They’re only saying I love you” 4) “Make You Feel My Love,” by Adele Lyrics you’d love: “When the rain is blowing in your face/And the whole world is on your case/I could offer you a warm embrace/To make you feel my love” 5) “Iris,” by The Goo Goo Dolls Lyrics you’d love: “And I’d give up forever to touch you/Cause I know that you feel me somehow/You’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be/And I don’t wanna go home right now” 6) “Tale As Old As Time,” (Instrumental) from Beauty and the Beast 7) “I’m Yours,” by Jason Mraz Lyrics you’d love: “Well open up your mind and see like me/Open up your plans and damn you’re free/Look into your heart and you’ll find love love love love” 8) “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” by Elvis Presley Lyrics you’d love: “Wise men say only fools rush in/But I can’t help falling in love with you/Oh, shall I stay, would it be a sin/Oh, if I can’t help falling in love with you?” 9) “Follow the Sun,” by Xavier Rudd Lyrics you’d love: “Breathe, breathe in the air/Set your intentions/Dream with care/Tomorrow is a new day for everyone/Brand new moon, brand new sun” And then of course at number 10 we have to put the “Wedding March.” It will always remain a classic! Matthew Mole also wrote the perfect Wedding Song for your entrance down the aisle. This one is for the deep breathes and the moment of goosebumps (and tears) when your husband-to-be and guests see you for the very first time and the very last time as a Miss. It’s not necessary to have a song for every part of your day, but you can have a track for signing the certificate or even the moment your minister says: “You may kiss the Bride.” Some cool choices for this are Somewhere over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole | Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros | La Vie En Rose by Lucy Dacus For confetti, you can choose if you want the Hip Hip Hoorays of your guests, or opt for something fun and upbeat like: Walking on Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves | Best day of my Life by American Authors 2. Pre-drinks Pre-drinks are when the “party starts” and you want your guests to talk all about how beautiful you are as a married couple while sipping on champagne and eating delicious canapes. For pre-drinks it is important to play the music that has a bit of an upbeat tempo to get guests in the mood to party once moving into the reception area. From Lady Zamar, Johnny Clegg to some good old Mango Groove, Jack Johnson, the list goes on. And then, of course, some Bob Marley, Travelling Wilburys, Michael Jackson, Elvis, etc. You want to make sure that your older guests are also entertained, but new modern music always works awesome in between it all like One Republic, Mumford & Sons and Jason Mraz. 3. Reception The reception is the first moment that you walk in as Mr & Mrs, so this one needs to be loud and big! “Please stand up and welcome Mr & Mrs….for the first time as husband and wife”…The crowd goes wild! Some great options are: 1) “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” by Justin Timberlake Lyrics you’ll love: “Nothing I can see but you when you dance, dance, dance/A feeling good, good, creeping up on you/So just dance, dance, dance, come on” 2) “I Gotta Feeling,” by Black Eyed Peas Lyrics you’ll love: “I gotta feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good night/That tonight’s gonna be a good night/That tonight’s gonna be a good, good night” 3) “Without You,” by David Guetta ft. Usher Lyrics you’ll love: “I can’t win, I can’t reign/I will never win this game without you, without you/I am lost, I am vain/I will never be the same without you, without you” 4) “Forever,” by Chris Brown Lyrics you’ll love: “It’s like I waited my whole life/For this one night/It’s gon’ be me you and the dance floor/Cause we only got one night” 5) “Crazy in Love,” by Beyonce ft. JAY Z Lyrics you’ll love: “It’s the way that you know what I thought I knew/It’s the beat my heart skips when I’m with you/But I still don’t understand/Just how your love can do what no one else can” 6) “We Are Family,” by Sister Sledge Lyrics you’ll love: “We are family/I got all my sisters with me/We are family/Get up everybody and sing” 7) “Raise Your Glass,” by P!nk Lyrics you’ll love: “So raise your glass if you are wrong/In all the right ways/All my underdogs/We will never be never be, anything but loud/And nitty gritty” 8) “Starships,” by Nicki Minaj Lyrics you’ll love: “Star ships were meant to fly/Hands up and touch the sky/Can’t stop ’cause we’re so high/Let’s do this one more time” 9) “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” by Deff Leppard Lyrics you’ll love: “Pour some sugar on me/Ooh in the name of love/Pour some sugar on me/C’mon fire me up” 10) “Best Day of My Life,” by American Authors Lyrics you’ll love: “I’m never gonna look back/Woah, never gonna give it up/No, please don’t wake me now/This is gonna be the best day of my life” Some couples want to get most of the formalities out of the way and either cut the cake as they walk in, or open the dancefloor immediately. Here are some favourites that can transition into another song effortlessly: On Top of the World by Imagine Dragons | Shut up and Dance by Walk the Moon and of course the oldie I gotta feeling by Black Eyed Peas. Your first dance is a super personal choice, it must be a song close to your heart, one that you both relate to and feel comfortable with. 1) “Perfect,” by Ed Sheeran Lyrics you’ll love: “When I saw you in that dress/Looking so beautiful/I don’t deserve this/ Darling, you look perfect tonight” 2) “Speechless,” by Dan + Shay Lyrics you’ll love: “Ever since the day that we met/You take the breath out of my lungs/Can’t even fight it” 3) “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” by Elvis Presley Lyrics you’ll love: “Like a river flows surely to the sea/Darling so it goes/Some things are meant to be” 4) “Yours,” by Russell Dickerson Lyrics you’ll love: “You make me better than I was before/Thank God I’m yours” 5) “Thinking Out Loud,” by Ed Sheeran Lyrics you’ll love: “I’m thinking out loud/Maybe we found love right where we are” 6) “From the Ground Up,” by Dan + Shay Lyrics you’ll love: “And we’ll build this love from the ground up/Now ’til forever it’s all of me, all of you” 7) “Say You Won’t Let Go,” by James Arthur Lyrics you’ll love: “And I wanna stay with you until we’re grey and old/Just say you won’t let go” 8) “All of Me,” by John Legend Lyrics you’ll love: “Give your all to me/I’ll give my all to you/You’re my end and my beginning” 9) “At Last,” by Etta James Lyrics you’ll love: “And here we are in heaven/For you are mine/At last” 10) “You Are the Best Thing,” by Ray LaMontagne Lyrics you’ll love: “The way you move me, it’s crazy/It’s like you see right through me/And make it easier/Believe me, you don’t even have to try” Some of Southern Sounds front-runners are: If I ever saw heaven by Roan Ash | Perfect | Thinking out Loud | The One by Kodaline | Lover by Taylor Swift A new trend is that brides choose to open the dancefloor with their father & daughter dance. It’s quite a privilege if your dad can give you away to your husband for that very first dance together. These ones are not overplayed and really special: Heartland – I loved her first | Sweet Child o Mine by Jasmine Thompson | Dance with my Father by Luther Vandross Calling all the single people to the dancefloor is one of the highlights of your night, so why not make it awesome. For the bouquet toss – PLEASE no more Beyonce, Single Ladies! Rather Dames by Biggie – Love it or hate it…you can’t get away from it! And for the garter, make the song a longer one, because if you’re going to prank your hubby, the song must be at least 5 min long. Let’s get it on by Marvin Gaye | Pony by Ginuwine | Another one bites the dust by Queen | Can’t touch this by Mc Hammer And that’s a wrap! Have fun, keep it light and enjoy every moment of your party.
